Get to know one of Jacksonville’s most up and coming neighborhoods
One of the first platted neighborhoods in all of Jacksonville, Springfield’s historic district is an up and coming community of gorgeous homes near to downtown Jacksonville. Surprisingly Springfield is one of the highest points above sea level in Duval County and one of the reasons it was first on the list for residential development. Featuring homes built after the Great Fire of 1901 as well as new construction, the area encompasses over a square mile of residential homes just north of downtown. Sprinkled among these beautiful homes are small locally owned commercial, retail and office spaces that encourages great walkability to shopping, dining, and nightlife.
Throughout the community, homes are being brought back to their former glory by homeowners and investors alike. Intermixed in the community are new homes which are helping to push home values higher. The character and design of Springfield’s stately homes lend themselves to what residents like to call “front porch living”. The sense of community in the neighborhood is enhanced by the large front porches lined up along the street so you can interact and feel like your neighbors can be your best friends!
Springfield boasts many festivals throughout the year and the largest by far is Porchfest. As its name suggests, Springfield’s beautiful expansive porches set the stage, quite literally, for a community festival that brings all of Jacksonville together. Visitors of Porchfest stroll through the neighborhood enjoying local drinks, food trucks, and live music entertainment right from the front porches of the resident’s homes! Every year on the 4th of July Klutho Park hosts a throwback baseball game where residents of the east and west side of the neighborhood compete to bring glory to their part of Springfield. The lively community also features a burgeoning retail sector on Main St. with new breweries and eateries opening regularly.
